Rayliss 991 had been controlling Lawrence Weisberger for over a year now, but there was still one thing that he couldn't control: Lawrence's coffee addiction. Every morning, at 6am when he got up, 8am when he arrived at work, and then again at around 11am after the morning meeting. Today was no special day, and Lawrence was sitting at a table in Starbucks, the mall's most popular coffee shop, sipping an espresso. He was meant to be going through his human work - he was a partner at Clyde-Boris, one of the town's top accouncy firms. For Rayliss, having Lawrence as a host was any Yeerk's dream: important, powerful and in control of several company's bank accounts! For Lawrence, of course, it was a living nightmare.

As Lawrence drank his coffee and scrolled through messages on one of his mobile phones. He had three phones; two belonging to Lawrence (one for work, one for personal calls) and one belonging to Rayliss for Yeerk business. As long as he remembered to punch in a special code each time he made a call, the line was secure.

Across the room, Lawrence was being watched by Sebastian Iovane, the manager of the phone shop next door. Sebastian was an Animorph, and Lawrence had been a prime target for them for the last week now; they were desparetly trying to find the entrance to the new Yeerk pool, and they were sure that Lawrence was going to lead them there at some point. After all, Yeerks still needed to feed on Kandrona rays every three days, yet they had seen nothing. Claire had been watching him last night, and Sebastian spied on him at work and searched through his mobile phone records, but there was nothing conclusive. The only new thing they thought they had was that Lawrence's wife was also a Controller, but they didn't really help them in the fight, it just gave them yet another person to be wary of. There was a meeting later that Ash has called on Claire's behalf, perhaps the other Animorphs had found something out.

Sebastian was getting restless. He was supposed to meet with his area manager soon, but he knew this was the last chance before the Animorphs meeting later to get any leads on the new Yeerk Pool entrance. Lawrence didn't seem to be acting like he was about to spill any infomation. He highlighted some notes in his agenda, made a few calls, drank another espresso. Sebastian looked at his watch. It was nearly midday. Suddenly, Lawrence's phone started ringing - but it wasn't the one he had been using to make most of his calls. Sebastian knew that Larence owned several phones, and sure enough, Lawrence lowered his voice when he answered this one.

"Yes?" he asked, politely but nervously. He looked around, and Sebastian stopped staring. Was he on the phone to another Controller? It was difficult to tell. He could only hear on side of the conversation, and Lawrence's words seemed to be one-word answers - yes, no, absolutely, understood. Sebastian strained to listen. Lawrence was mostly on the receiving end, but then things turned around.
"Call me on this number," he said. "Yes. The 1st, 4th and then the other location for the 7th. I'll be there."
Sebastian assumed the 1st, 4th and 7th were dates. Plus, they three days apart - just the timing for Yeerks to regenerate.
We might not have a location, but at least we have a timeframe, Sebastian smiled to himself. He left the coffee shop as Lawerence hung up his phone.
Then, he spent three hours in the most boring meeting his had ever attended, did a bit of paperwork in the office, and drove home at five, after telling Claire what he'd found out.
